एकातिर पार्टीमा सत्ता र शक्तिको होडबाजी चलेकै थियो अर्कोतिर चुनाव परिणाम सार्वजनिक भएको तीन महिनासम्म पनि राजा महेन्द्रले सरकार बनाउन आमन्त्रण नगर्दा के हुने हो, कसो हुने हो भन्ने संशय । कुनै पनि दलको बहुमत आउँदैन भन्ने गुप्तचरको रिपोर्टमा भर परेर चुनाव गराएका राजा कांग्रेसको अपार सफलताबाट तर्सिएका थिए ।

सुवर्ण निकट कांग्रेसीहरु पनि उनैलाई प्रधानमन्त्री बनाउने लबिङमा थिए । ललिता निवास (सुवर्णको दरबार, हाल नेपाल राष्ट्र बैंक, केन्द्रीय कार्यालय बालुवाटार रहेको भवन)को गेटमा जर्नेल साहेब प्रधानमन्त्री हुने भनेर साइतको कलश राखिएको थियो । यस प्रसंगमा कांग्रेस संसदीय दलका सचिव अच्युतराज रेग्मीले सुनाए — ‘‘सुवर्णजीका नातेदारहरु भन्ने गर्थे, हाम्रै पैसाले चुनाव लडेर सबै कांग्रेसीले जितेका छन्, जरसाहेव नै हुनुपर्छ ।’’ उता पार्टीका अर्का नेता गणेशमान सिंह कुनै हालतमा सुवर्णलाई प्रधानमन्त्री बनाउन नहुने अडानमा थिए । सुवर्ण प्रधानमन्त्री हुनु भनेको राणा शासनकै निरन्तरता हो भन्ने उनको धारणा थियो । रेग्मीले लेखकलाई सुनाए ‘‘बीपीले दाबी छोडे सुवर्णविरुद्व आफूले उम्मेदवारी दिने घोषणा गणेशमानले गरिसकेका थिए ।’’

सत्ताको विषयमा कांग्रेसमा कलह बढ्यो भने प्रजातन्त्र नै संकटमा पर्छ, अनि देश र जनताले दुःख पाउँछन् भन्ने डर उनमा थियो । त्यसैले बीपीलाई प्रधानमन्त्री नहुन उनले दबाब बढाई रहेकी थिइन् ।
यस प्रसंगमा पूर्वप्रधानमन्त्री डा. तुलसी गिरीले लेखकलाई सुनाए — ‘‘एक दिन सुशीला भाउजुले भन्नुभयो पार्टीमा विवाद आउने गरी बीपी प्रधानमन्त्री बन्नु हुँदैन । तपाईहरुले सम्झाएर रोक्नुपर्छ ।’’

डा.गिरी र थापा दुवैले लेखकसँग भनेका छन् ‘‘हामीले धेरै सम्झाएपछि भाउजुले आफ्नो निर्णय सुनाउनु भयो । बीपी सर्वसम्मत भएमात्र प्रधानमन्त्री बन्न सक्नुहुन्छ संसदीय दलको चुनाव लडेर हैन । प्रधानमन्त्री भए पनि पहिलो एक वर्षका लागिमात्र । त्यसपछि सुवर्णलाई छाडिदिनुपर्छ ।”
विश्ववन्धु थापाले सुनाए ‘‘सुशीला भाउजुलाई खुसी बनाउन सान्दाईले भन्नु भयो एक वर्षभित्र सरकार सञ्चालनको मार्गचित्र बनाएर सुवर्णजीको पक्षमा छोडिदिन्छु । अनि म पार्टी संगठन बनाउनतिर लाग्छु ।’’
