यसैबीच एक दिन नेपाली कांग्रेसका पुराना नेता जो लोकेन्द्रबहादुर चन्द नेतृत्वमा वन तथा भू–संरक्षण मन्त्री पनि थिए, बद्रीनारायण बस्नेत, उनले यो पंक्तिकारलाई टेलिफोन गरेर घरमै बोलाए । उनी मेरो पहिलेदेखिकै पारिवारिक सम्बन्धका आदरणीय व्यक्ति र छिमेकी पनि हुन् । म उनलाई भेट्न पुगें ।

तत्कालीन राजा ज्ञानेन्द्रको निरंकुश शैलीबाट आजित भएर संवैधानिक राजतन्त्र र लोकतन्त्रमा विश्वास राख्ने नेपाली कांग्रेससहितका दलहरू उनको निरंकुशता अन्त्यका लागि तत्कालीन विद्रोही माओवादीसँग सहकार्यको गृहकार्यमा लागिसकेका थिए । तर माओवादीसँगको सहकार्यप्रति शैलजाको गम्भीर असहमति थियो । मुलुकमा गणतन्त्र आइसक्दा पनि उनी माओवादीसँगको सहकार्य र कांग्रेसले संवैधानिक राजतन्त्र परित्याग गरेको घटनाबाट पूरै असन्तुष्ट थिइन् । उनको आस्थाको राजनीति र सिद्धान्तप्रतिको अविचलनलाई हाम्रो समाजले खासै चिन्न, बुझ्न सकेनभन्ने मलाई अहिले पनि लाग्छ । शैलजाको आफ्नो सिद्धान्तप्रतिको अडानका आधारमा उनले ज्ञानेन्द्रलाई कैयौं पटक भेटिसकेको भन्नेजसरी भ्रमपूर्ण समाचारहरू आइरहेका थिए । स्वार्थी समाज र त्यसको मनोविज्ञानका कारण स्भाविक परिणामस्वरूप धेरै मानिसहरूको बुझाई पनि यस्तैयस्तै नै थियो । तर उता दरबार भने अझै पनि शैलजालाई भेट्न झस्किरहेको थियो ।
