मास्केले राणा सरकारलाई लक्षित गर्दै राणा प्रधानमन्त्रीको श्रीपेच हावामा उडेको र उक्त श्रीपेचलाई प्रधानमन्त्रीले संरक्षण गर्न खोजेको रेखाचित्र पोस्टर बनाई भित्तामा टाँसेका थिए । यी चित्रले आफूमाथि व्यङ्ग्य गरेको भन्दै राणा सरकारले उनलाई देश निकालाको फैसला ग-यो। पछि सर्वश्वहरणसहित १८ वर्ष जेल सजाय तोकिएको इतिहास छ ।
नेपाली ललितकलाका मूर्धन्य कलाकार चन्द्रमानसिंह मास्केले तत्कालीन राणा शासकको तस्विर उतार्ने क्रममा वास्तविकभन्दा केही फरक मुखाकृति बनाए । रङ संयोजनमा समेत केही अस्वाभाविक प्रयोग गरे। मास्केले कुन उद्देश्यबाट राणा शासकको चित्रलाई बिगारेर उतारे भन्ने प्रष्ट नभए पनि तत्कालीन सरकारले त्यसलाई आफूमाथिको व्यङ्ग्य सम्झियो। उनै मास्केले राणा सरकारलाई लक्षित गर्दै राणा प्रधानमन्त्रीको श्रीपेच हावामा उडेको र उक्त श्रीपेचलाई प्रधानमन्त्रीले संरक्षण गर्न खोजेको रेखाचित्र पोस्टर बनाई भित्तामा टाँसेका थिए । यी चित्रले आफूमाथि व्यङ्ग्य गरेको भन्दै राणा सरकारले उनलाई देश निकालाको फैसला ग-यो। पछि सर्वश्वहरणसहित १८ वर्ष जेल सजाय तोकिएको इतिहास छ । यद्यपि यो प्रकरणबारे पर्याप्त खोजअनुसन्धान भने भएको छैन्। चित्रकलाको माध्यमबाट हास्य र व्यङ्ग्य गर्ने प्रचलनको पहिलो परिघटनाको रुपमा यसलाई लिने गरिन्छ ।
सञ्चारमाध्यम, त्यसमा पनि छापा माध्यममा कार्टुन चित्र प्रकाशन गर्ने चलन २०१४ सालमा संयुक्त प्रयास साप्ताहिकमा सुरु भएको मानिन्छ । उक्त पत्रिकामा गोवर्धनविक्रम शाहले कार्टुन चित्र बनाएको इतिहासमा पढ्न पाइन्छ । त्यसपछि ‘नयाँ समाज’ लगायतका त्यसताकाका पत्रिकाहरूमा फाट्टफुट्ट कार्टुन चित्र छाप्ने गरिएको पाइन्छ । नेपालमा पहिलो पटक बनस्पति घ्यू भित्रिएपछि त्यसप्रति व्यङ्ग्य गर्दै बनाइएको कार्टुन इतिहासमा अंकित म छ । अफसेट प्रेस भित्रिनुअघि लेटर प्रेसमा ब्लक बनाएर कार्टुन वा फोटो पत्रिकामा छाप्ने प्रविधि प्रचलनमा थियो। उक्त ब्लक पनि भारत पठाएर तयार गरेर ल्याइन्थ्यो। विश्व जगतमा कार्टुन चित्रका आ–आफ्नै इतिहास र प्रचलनहरू छन्। कतिपयले सिक्कामा भएको शासकहरूको फोटो पुरानो हुँदै जाँदा मूल आकृतिभन्दा फरक देखिँदै गएपछि त्यसैको प्रतिलिपि तयार गर्दै कार्टुन चित्रको विकास भएको मान्यता समेत छ ।
नेपालको सन्र्दभमा हेर्ने हो भने भारतीय कार्टुनिष्टहरूको प्रभावबाट विकासक्रम सुरु भएको देखिन्छ । विशेष गरेर ०४६ साल पछाडि नेपालमा अफसेट प्रेस मात्र भित्रिएन व्यवसायीक पत्रकारिताको विकास पनि प्रारम्भ भयो। त्यससँगसँगै कार्टुन चित्रकलाले पनि विकास हुने मौका पायो । भारतीय कार्टुनिष्ट आरके लक्ष्मणको प्रभाव नेपाली कार्टुन क्षेत्रमा पर्याप्त परेको पाइन्छ । नेपाली कार्टुन चित्रकलाका अग्रणी व्यक्तित्व बात्सायनको कार्टुनकारितामा आरके लक्ष्मणको प्रभाव प्रचुर मात्रामा देख्न सकिन्छ । बात्सायनपछिका नेपाली कार्टुनिष्टहरूमा बात्सायनको प्रभाव देखिए पनि विस्तारै आफ्नै मौलिकता विकास भएको देखिन्छ । नेपाली कार्टुन क्षेत्रले ०४६ साल पछाडि उल्लेख्य मात्रामा अवसर पाएको देखिन्छ । यद्यपि पञ्चायतकालदेखि नै प्रकाशित हुँदै आएको ‘भाँडभैलो’ र ‘कामना’ पत्रिकाको विशेशाङ्कले प्रकाशित गर्ने कार्टुन सँगालोले नेपाली आधुनिक कार्टुन क्षेत्रको जग हाल्ने काम गरेको थियो।
यी दुवै पत्रिकाले गाईजात्राको सन्र्दभमा आफ्नो विशेशाङ्क प्रकाशन गर्ने गर्दथे। नेपाली कार्टुन क्षेत्रको गहिरो सम्बन्ध गाईजात्रा पर्वसँग पनि जोडिएको छ । व्यवसायीक पत्रकारिताको विकाससँगै कार्टुन पत्रकारिताको क्षेत्रसमेत विकास हुँदै गयो। विशेष गरेर छापा माध्यमका लागि कार्टुन चित्र अभिन्न सामग्रीको रुपमा रह्यो। समसामायिक घटनाक्रम, राजनीतिक, सामाजिक, आर्थिक क्षेत्रका विकृति र जनजीविकाको सवाल नेपाली कार्टुन क्षेत्रका प्रधान सामग्री बन्न पुगे। हास्य र व्यङ्ग्य मिश्रित समसामयिक कार्टुनले पाठक र दर्शकलाई आकर्षित ग-यो। कतिपय सन्र्दभमा समाचार सामग्रीले भन्दा बढी प्रभाव कार्टुन चित्रले पारेको अनुभव गर्न थालियो।
नेपाली कार्टुन क्षेत्रको चर्चा गर्दा साप्ताहिक विमर्शमा खोकनाले बनाएको संसद् विघटनसम्बन्धी कार्टुन चित्रले उक्त पत्रिकाका सम्पादक हरिहर विरहीलाई सात दिन जेल पु-याएको घटना स्मरण गरिएन भने अपुरो हुनेछ । तत्कालीन प्रधानन्यायाधीश विश्वनाथ उपाध्याय नेतृत्वको न्यायाधीशको समूहले तत्कालीन प्रधानमन्त्री गिरिजाप्रसाद कोइरालाले संसद् विघटन गरेको मुद्दा फैसलासम्बन्धी कार्टुन चित्रले अदालतको मानहानी भएको भनि मुद्धा परेपछि सम्पादक विरहीलाई कैदको फैसला भएको थियो। प्रविधिको विकाससँगै नेपाली कार्टुनिष्टहरूले पनि आफूलाई विकास गर्दै लगेको देखिन्छ । ब्लकबाट छापिन थालेको नेपाली कार्टुन चित्र पछिल्लो समयमा रङ् गीन हुँदै एनिमेसनसम्म प्रयोग गर्न थालिएको छ । जसले गर्दा कार्टुनिष्टहरूले दिन खोजेको सन्देश प्रभावकारी ढङगबाट सम्प्रेषण भएका छन्। नेपाली कार्टुन चित्रको मुल विषयबस्तु राजनीतिक नै देखिन्छ । सायद नेपालको राजनीति अस्थिर र विकृतिपूर्ण भएकाले पनि नेपाली कार्टुनिष्टहरूले विषयवस्तु छनोट गर्दा राजनीतिक विषयलाई नै प्राथामिकता दिएको हुनसक्दछ ।
राजनीतिक विषयवस्तुको अलावा समाजका विविध विषयका विकृतिजन्य विषयवस्तुमाथि पनि नेपाली कार्टुनिष्टहरूले पनि आफ्ना सृजनालाई केन्द्रित गरेका छन्। नेपालको सन्र्दभलाई हेर्ने हो भने नेपाली काँग्रेसका नेता गिरिजाप्रसाद कोइरालालाई पात्र बनाएर अत्यधिक कार्टुन चित्रहरू रचना गरिएका छन्। ०४६ सालको प्रजातन्त्र पुनर्बहालीपछि नेपाली राजनीतिको केन्द्रीय पात्र बनेका कोइराला नेपालका सबैजसो चल्तीका कार्टुनिष्टहरूको रोजाइका पात्र बने। त्यति धेरै कार्टुनको पात्र बने पनि कोइरालाले कुनै पनि कार्टुनिष्टप्रति असन्तुष्टि पोखेको सुनिएन । भारतमा भारतीय कार्टुनिष्टहरूको पहिलो रोजाइमा थिइन– इन्दिरा गान्धी । विशेष गरेर आरके लक्ष्मणको रेखाचित्रमा इन्दिरा गान्धी सबैभन्दा बढी समेटिने पात्र थिइन्। आफू माथि आरके लक्ष्मणले निरन्तर व्यङ्ग्य गरेपछि इन्दिरा गान्धीले गुनासो मात्र गरिनन्, रिसाउन पुगिन्। कार्टुनिष्टले पनि अबदेखि गान्धीको चित्र नबाउने बताए । केही समय पछि उनै गान्धीले आरके लक्ष्मणलाई आफ्ना बारेमा कार्टुन चित्र कोर्न आग्रह गरिन्। कारण थियो, आरके लक्ष्मणले उनको कार्टुन चित्र बनाउन छाडेपछि गान्धीको चर्चा निकै कम हुन थाल्यो। आफ्नो लोकप्रियतामा गिरावट आएपछि उनले पुनः आफ्नो कार्टुन चित्र बनाउन आग्रह गरेकी थिइन्। नेपाली कार्टुन चित्रको इतिहास रोचक र गौरवपूर्ण छ । नेपाली पाठक र दर्शकहरूमा नेपाली कार्टुनिष्टहरूले राम्रो प्रभाव छाडेका छन्। तर पछिल्ला दिनहरूमा कार्टुन चित्रहरूको प्रभाव र चर्चामा कमी आएको महसुस गरिएको छ । पुराना र स्थापित कार्टुनिष्टहरू हराउँदै जानु र नयाँ कार्टुनिष्टहरूको उदय आशा गरेअनुरुप नहुनु नेपाली कार्टुन क्षेत्रको चिन्ताको विषय हो।
विशेष गरेर विभिन्न सामाजिक सञ्जालको प्रयोगपछि कार्टुनिष्टहरूमा चुनौती थपिएको छ । सामाजिक सञ्जालमा विभिन्न शैलीबाट हास्य र व्यङ्ग्य गर्ने अवसर सृजना भएपछि हरेक व्यक्तिले आफ्नै ढङ्गबाट आफूलाई अभिव्यक्त गर्ने मौका सृजना भएको छ । फरक शैली र प्रविधिबाट राजनीतिक, सामाजिक र आर्थिक विषयमा हास्य र व्यङ्ग्यको अभिव्यक्ति पस्किने प्रचलनले नेपाली कार्टुन क्षेत्रलाई केही हदसम्म ओझेल पारेको मान्न सकिन्छ । कार्टुनिष्टहरूले पृथक् र उन्नत किसिमको सृजनाका लागि गहिरो चिन्तन गर्नु आवश्यक छ ।
